Baal-Targummu c.1220 v.C. ---------------------------------- In de Papyrus Anastasi III (ANET 258) wordt onder Rev.6.3. een mogelijk volgende koning vermeld: Baal T-R-G-M. De diverse pogingen tot vertalingen leiden tot de namen Baal-talma(g) of Baal-Remeg of Ba’alt-remeg. Baal-Targummu lijkt me echter het meest voor de hand te liggen. We praten wel steeds over koningen, maar misschien is dat wat te hoog gegrepen. Wellicht is prins of eenvoudigweg stadhouder meer op zijn plaats. We weten overigens helemaal niets concreets over Baal-Targummu.   Van betekenis is wel, dat de Egyptenaren opeens niet meer precies weten, waar alles nu precies aan de Levant ligt. Zozeer is hun bemoeienis met deze streek afgezwakt. In Papyrus I worden daarover vragen gesteld*: “Waar ligt de loop van de Litani (ntn)? Ušu (’ṭ). Hoe zit dat eruit? Ze hebben mij aangegeven, dat er een andere stad in zee ligt: Tyrus (Ṣr), de haven. Men brengt er water in boten en het is rijker aan vis dan aan zand. Ik meldt nog een ander moeilijk punt: de omzeiling van de Raš al-Naqura (Dr‘m).”   Het is bijna de tijd, dat de zeevolken de Levant gaan binnenvallen.       * John A.Wilson, An Egyptian Letter, Papyrus Anastasi I, ANET blz 477.

Baal Targummu c.1220 BC. ------------------------------------ In the Papyrus Anastasi III (ANET 258) is under Rev.6.3. a possible next king mentioned: Baal TRGM. The various attempts at translations lead to the names Baal talma(g) or Baal Remeg or Ba'alt-remeg. However Baal Targummu seems the most obvious. Obvious we'll talk more about kings, but maybe that's what too much. Perhaps prince or governor simply is more appropriate. Moreover, we know nothing concrete about Baal Targummu. Of significance is that the Egyptians suddenly not know exactly where everything is now in the Levant. So much is their involvement toned with this region. In Papyrus I are put questions about it: "Where is the course of the Litani (ntn)? Ušu (’ṭ). How does that look like? They have shown me that there is another city in the sea: Tyre (Ṣr), the port. To it one brings water in boats and it is richer in fish than sand. I reported yet another difficult issue: the circumvention of Ras al-Naqura (Dr'm) ".
