Quintus Curtius (IV 4.19): “Gesticht door Agenoor, werd zij (=Tyrus) lange tijd de meesteres van de zee, niet alleen in de eigen streek, maar vooral waar zijn vloten de toegang verworven hadden; .... In ieder geval strekten haar kolonies zich uit over de hele wereld: Carthago in Afrika, Thebe in Boeotië, Gadès in de oceaan. Ik denk, dat, toen zij over de hoge zee zeilden en vaak in onbekende landen kwamen, de Tyriërs wijs de plaatsen kozen, waar zij haar talrijke kinderen kon verwelkomen.”   Het Agenoor verhaal kan terug te voeren zijn op het begin van de geschiedsschrijving van Herodotos (I, 2), waarbij Ioo geschaakt wordt door de Phoinikiërs. “Zo zou dan volgens de Perzen (maar de Grieken denken daar anders over) Ioo in Egypte gekomen zijn en dit was de eerste van een reeks gewelddaden geweest. Hierna zouden volgens hen enkele Grieken (hun naam weten ze niet te vermelden) na een landing in het Phoinikische Tyros de koningsdochter Europa geschaakt hebben. Dit zouden dan wel Kretenzers geweest kunnen zijn.”

Quintus Curtius (IV 4.19): "Founded by Agenoor, she was (= Tyre) a long-time mistress of the sea, not only in their own region, but especially where her fleets had been acquired access; .... At least her colonies ranged from around the world: Carthage in Africa, Thebes in Boeotia, Gades in the ocean. I think, when she sailed on the high seas and often came into unknown lands, the Tyrians wise chose the places where they could welcome her numerous children.” The Agenoor story can be traced back to the early history account of Herodotus (I, 2), in which Ioo is abducted by the Phoinikians. "This would be in accordance with the Persians (but the Greeks think otherwise) that Ioo came into Egypt and this was the first of a series of violence. After that, according to them some Greeks (but they know their names not to mention) after having landed in Tyros they abducted the Phoinikian princess Europe. This could have been Cretans.
