About the year 1000 or 900, supremacy shifted from Sidon to Tyr. After it had been captured and sacked by the Philistines, Sidon took a very long time to recover. Yet this city had already done so much for the glory and the cause of the Phoenicians nation that the name Sidonian remained, for many years to come, the common name of the entire race, both in Syria and further West.”

One thing is certain: Tyr pursued the work commenced by Sidon, only on a larger scale and with greater daring.”

G.Markoe maakt in boek 323 (The Phoenicians) de treffende vergelijking tussen Genua/Venetië en Tyrus/Sidon.

G.Markoe publishes in book 323 (The Phoenicians) the striking comparison between Genoa / Venice and Tyre / Sidon.
