In zijn nieuwe residentie Dur‑Sharukkin (Chorsabad) zijn de annalen van Sargon II gevonden. Tenminste tot en met zijn 5e regeringsjaar (717/6) is Sargon II actief bij Karchemis (Pisiri), Musku (Mita (Midas), Urartu en hij onderwerpt Kue (Cilicië). Ondertussen herbevolkt hij 'Bit‑Humri' met de inwoners van Tamud, Ibadidi, Marsmani en Harapa (Chajapeërs).*** Tussendoor bestrijdt hij ook de piraten op de zee (Iamaneërs).
