Ittobaal I en de Assyriërs. ------------------------------- In 876 v.C, 858 v.C en waarschijnlijk in 855 v.C heeft Ittobaal I rechtstreeks te maken met de Assyriërs. In 876 v.C betaalt hij een tribuut aan Assurnasirpal II en op het eind van zijn regering heeft hij te maken met Salamanassar III. Misschien is er andere jaren ook wel tribuut betaald, maar daar hebben we geen weet van. De tribuutbetalingen vinden plaats in het noorden aan de monding van Arantu (Orontes) of in de golf van Issus. Bij het laatste tribuut wordt vermoedelijk helemaal het binnenland in gegaan tot Til Barsip aan de Eufraat. Al was het maar om te voorkomen, dat de Assyrische vorst de kant van de Middellandse zee zou opkomen. Als die al kwamen dan hielden die zich vooral met het noorden van Syrië bezig en het Amanus gebergte bezig en dat lag nog ver van Tyrus verwijderd, maar toch was het belangrijk genoeg voor Tyrus om de Assyrische vorsten te vriend te houden, want Tyrus had ook zijn faktorijen aan de golf van Issus. En de handel daarlangs moest natuurlijk ongestoord voortgang kunnen vinden.      ncfps

Ittobaal I and the Assyrians. ------------------------------------ In 876 BC, 858 BC and probably 855 BC Ittobaal I has to do with the Assyrians. In 876 BC Ittobaal I pays a tribute to Assurnasirpal II and at the end of his reign, he has to do with Salamanassar III.
